we are the compton family. we use this blog to keep in touch with our family and friends and as a scrapbook of sorts.
on march 3, 2007, our son, ryan, was diagnosed with leukemia, at the age of 22 months. since then, our blog took on more importance in keeping friends & family updated and as a chronicle of our journey in nursing ryan back to health.
the type of leukemia that ryan was first diagnosed with is acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pre-b standard risk-high, slow early responder). he was in remission since april 2007 and completed three years and four months of treatment on july 3rd, 2010. we found out on july 12th, 2010 that he relapsed. during cytogenetic testing for his relapse diagnosis, they found that he has the t(1;19) translocation- a high risk marker for leukemia. ryan should have been treated on a high risk leukemia protocol all along (instead of standard risk), but they weren't able to find the translocation until relapse. he is now being treated as a very high risk case. he had extremely aggressive chemotherapy and preconditioning followed by an unrelated bone marrow transplant on november 16th, 2010. his donor was a perfect 10/10 match.
come here for updates on his progress.
we love hearing from friends and family. you can leave a message for ryan or any of us in the comments section under each post, or contact us by email.
thank you immensely for all your love and tremendous support.
